4 Outdoor Activities to Fall into October

Can you believe it’s already October? Don’t let the month pass you by without taking planning a weekend getaway to Holiday Inn Victorville, going for a hike to admire the fall foliage, or spending the day picking the perfect sized pumpkins.

Here are some fall activities you may enjoy doing this month, and don’t forget your favorite seasonal beverage, whether that’s hot apple cider or a pumpkin spiced latte.

Go Leaf Peeping at Big Bear Lake

Hike through a vast expanse of brilliant fall colors at Big Bear Lake. There are several trails that you can take to admire the stunning colors only found during autumn. The best choice for a stroll through the area’s evergreen, aspen, cottonwood, and oak trees is the Town Trail. Photographers should consider hiking this trail in the late afternoon as sunlight streams through the gold, amber, and orange covered trees.

Visit a Nearby Farm for Pumpkins

Bright orange pumpkins can be turned into smiling Jack-O-Lanterns, used to give your home a warm autumn ambiance, or used in a variety of dinner and dessert recipes. Take a quick drive over to Venegas Family Farms, located about an hour south of Victorville, for pumpkins priced at just $6 for any pre-cut size. The pumpkins are not only reasonably priced, but they’re also responsibly sourced. According to the Farm’s website, they won’t waste since anything left over goes to feed their cows.

View a Rare Blue Moon on Halloween

You’re in for a big treat this Halloween. For the first time in 19 years, a rare blue, full moon will light up Halloween’s night sky. What makes this blue moon – so dubbed since it is the second full moon in October – especially impressive is that it will be viewable in all time zones for the first time, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, since 1944.
